The exhibition title NON/LINEAR deals with the concepts of “nonlinearity” and “nonlinear systems”, which can be found in fields of mathematics, computer science, literature, film and physical processes such as geophysics.

In the context of art, further levels open up - even if they are rarely described as such in this field - Artists create and use non linear processes. In artistic practice, the core message could be translated into the description of a distorted image field, an unpredictable result (input/output correlation) or simply the conscious breaking of linear symmetrical or expected patterns and structures. Indirection, deviation, irregularity, complexity but also chaotic behavior characterize Nonlinearity.

The spelling of “NON/LINEAR” contains a slash line that expands this term, perhaps even disrupt it and refers to the line itself - in any case, it opens up the possibilities of interpretation for the very different approaches and positions that the nine artists present in their artworks at the Milchhof Pavilion/ Berlin.
